Male in custody after incident at Willow and Applewood (update: 6 photos)

11:07 a.m. update:

Guelph Police have issued the following statement regarding this morning's incident:

On the 4th of April 2017 at approximately 11:56 p.m., the Guelph Police Service responded to a disturbance between a man and a woman at an Applewood Crescent address where there were weapons involved.

When police arrived, a female was located outside the residence and she was unharmed.

Police attempted to talk with a male located inside the townhouse but he refused to exit the residence.

Due these circumstances, the Guelph Police Service's Tactics and Rescue Unit attended to the call. 

At approx. 8:56 a.m., a 31-year-old Brampton man was taken into police custody at the residence with minor injuries.

He was transported to hospital to be medically cleared and then will be held in custody for a bail hearing.

His is to be charged with two counts of assault, two counts of assault with a weapon and weapons dangerous to the public peace.

The Guelph Police Service wants to thank everyone in the neighbourhood for their patience and understanding while we dealt with this incident.

10 a.m. update:

Police have broken the front window of a home and a person was taken away by ambulance. A canine unit is on scene.

There is an ongoing incident at the corner of Willow Road and Applewood Crescent that started at approximately midnight.

The immediate area has been contained and the Tactics and Rescue Unit are on scene to help resolve the matter.

There is no risk to public safety but police are asking that people avoid that area until the matter is resolved.

Any additional information will be released when it has been resolved.
