Police called to parking lot collision. Fergus driver charged with impaired

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a two vehicle collision on McQueen Boulevard, Fergus. Initial reports indicated that a driver had backed his vehicle into a parked vehicle in the parking lot of a licensed restaurant. Initial reports also suggested that the driver may be intoxicated.

Wellington County OPP responded and located the driver. While speaking with him, officers formed the opinion that he was impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

No one was injured in the crash.

Sixty-one-year-old John B. Winger of Fergus has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and driving with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Nov. 9, 2018.
