Police cruiser rammed by stolen vehicle

On Jan. 10, 2018 at approximately 10:30 a.m., an off duty Guelph police officer was shopping in a department store located in the north end of the city. The police officer observed two males that were acting suspiciously. The off duty officer called for patrol officers to attend to the department store and assist. While waiting for backup, the off duty officer observed two males get into a Kia that was suspected to have been stolen recently.

Guelph police patrol officers arrived as the Kia was leaving the parking lot. Two cruisers initiated a traffic stop on the Kia. The driver of the Kia suddenly accelerated and rammed one of the cruisers. The Kia then fled the scene.

For reasons of public safety, police did not pursue the Kia. The Kia was lasts seen on Nicklin Drive. It is described as two-tone, black with a red roof. This vehicle will have front end damage.

There were no injuries to officers as a result of this incident. Damage to the police vehicle is estimated at $2,000.
