The Guelph Police Service would like to remind motorists of the move over law. As soon as a driver sees an emergency vehicle with lights flashing, that driver should immediately slow down and begin planning to pass the emergency vehicle in a safe manner.

On Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 at approximately 9:50 a.m., a Guelph police officer in Traffic Division was investigating a collision that occurred near the intersection of Speedvale Avenue East and Metcalfe Street. The cruiser was parked in the centre lane of Speedvale Avenue with full emergency lights activated, blocking the lane where a collision had occurred.

During the investigation, the cruiser was struck from behind by another vehicle. The driver of the vehicle that struck the cruiser, an 86-year-old Guelph man, has been charged with careless driving.

There are no injuries as a result of this collision. Total damage is estimated at $2,000.
