Police find $20,000 in drugs on male in medical distress in store washroom

Police seized approximately $20,000 worth of fentanyl and other drugs after a male was reported to be in medical distress at a north end business Monday evening.

A 911 call was received just before 11 p.m. about a male in distress in the washroom of a business in the area of Woodlawn Road West and Woolwich Street. While officials from Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Service attended to the male, officers searched his belongings for identification and to determine what was causing his medical issues.

The search revealed five large baggies of suspected fentanyl as well as two other baggies of pills believed to be Dilaudid and Clonazepam. In total officers seized 69.9 grams of suspected fentanyl, 11 Dilaudid pills and 44 Clonazepam pills with a total value of approximately $20,000.

A 29-year-old Guelph male is charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. He was released to receive medical attention and will be rearrested and assigned a court date at a later time.
