Police find alcohol, marijuana in vehicle stopped for speeding

WELLINGTON NORTH TOWNSHIP, ON - On Saturday Sept. 8, 2018, at approximately 3:56 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic and conducting radar on Wellington Road 109 near Wellington Road 10 in Wellington North Township. The officer observed a male driving a white motor vehicle at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 130 km/h.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and while speaking with the male driver, detected the odour of fresh marihuana and an alcoholic beverage. 

The officer observed marihuana flakes in the console area of the vehicle and observed an open container of alcohol within reach of the driver. 

The driver was placed under arrest and a subsequent search of the vehicle yielded a large quantity of marihuana.

22-year-old Adam Barth of Chatsworth has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), Possession of Marihuana Over 30 Grams contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) and Drive Motor Vehicle With Open Container of Liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Act (LLA). 

He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on October 9, 2018 to answer to the charges.

His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
