Police find drugs during traffic stop

On the 18th of May, 2019 members of the Tactics and Rescue Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the downtown. During the traffic stop, officers located drugs and drug paraphernalia within the vehicle.

Both the driver and passenger were placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance. Search incident to arrest found that one of the males was in possession of a prohibited weapon. Further investigation found that the male was also on a court order not to be in possession of weapons. He was subsequently charged with being in possession of a prohibited weapon.

Officers also located a significant quantity of the drugs purple fentanyl and cocaine as well as drug paraphernalia and cash inside the vehicle. Police estimate the drugs to have a street value of over $5,000.

It was later determined that one of the males was also wanted on a Canada-wide warrant. Both males were arrested and held for a bail hearing on May 19.
