Guelph police say they are aware of a video circulating on social media in which an individual outlines threats received and asks for assistance.

"Officers have been in contact with the individual and the investigation is ongoing," says a police news release.

They point out that the service does not identify complainants, nor do we comment on the status of investigations that are underway.

"As a general comment, the Guelph Police Service is aware of protesters whose focus has been on members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in other parts of the province, but are not aware of any other such protests reported in Guelph," said the release.

The release is believed to be in reference to threats and protests made to drag performers and at drag shows.

"While freedom of speech and the right to protest are fully recognized by the Guelph Police Service it is important that everyone recognizes that threats, intimidation and harassment of a criminal nature are not acceptable by law and will not be tolerated in our community; particularly those rooted in discrimination. We will fully investigate any such reports."
