The Guelph Police Service is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle responsible for a hit and run at the corner of Cassino Avenue and William Street early Saturday morning.

At approximately 2:25 a.m., Guelph Police received a calling advising of a loud “bang at that intersection. The caller advised they were outside when they heard the bang, and when they went to investigate, the stop sign located on Cassino Avenue for the eastbound lane was lying on the ground. No motor vehicle was present.

The sign had been sheared at the bottom with a single tire track approximately 10 metres long leading from Cassino Avenue. Pieces of the vehicle were found scattered across the south portion of the intersection. The damaged sign was removed, and a temporary sign subsequently put in its place.

The vehicle responsible for this will have damage to the passenger side portion of its front bumper, and will be missing the air vent which would normally be located in the area of the vehicle’s fog lamp. The date and time stamp on the air vent suggests this vehicle will be either a 2020 or 2021 model.

Anyone with information is asked to call Constable Christian Godin at 519-824-1212, ext. 7288, email him at [email protected], leave an anonymous tip for Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or leave an anonymous tip online at www.csgw.tips.
