Police report an abundance of racing charges this week

Five drivers locked on radar travelling 50 km/h or more over the posted speed limit

GUELPH-ERAMOSA - On March 22, 2018 at approximately 2:10 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on Jones Baseline south of Conservation Road, Township of Guelph-Eramosa. The officer observed a male driving a black car at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 130 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 50 km/h.

Twenty-three-year-old Geoffrey Kavanagh of Nichol Township has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on May 16, 2018. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

WELLINGTON NORTH - On March 25, 2018 at approximately 9:30 p.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on County Road 109, Township of Wellington North. The officer observed a male driving a black car at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 135 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 50 km/h.

Thirty-five-year-old Shraddhey Jani of Brampton has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on May 16, 2018. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

On March 27, 2018 at approximately 12:05 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on The Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. The officer observed a male driving a blue car at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 130 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 50 km/h.

Eighteen-year-old Sebastien Robbins of Guelph has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on May 16, 2018. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

MAPLETON - On March 27, 2018 at approximately 4:30 a.m., a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was monitoring traffic on Highway 6 near County 17, Township of Mapleton. The officer observed a male driving a vehicle at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 140 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 50 km/h.

50-year-old Vitality Mazurenko of Elora has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on May 16, 2018. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.

The vehicle was locked on radar in excess of 130 km/h, exceeding the posted speed limit by at least 50 km/h.

A 17-year-old male from Erin has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on May 16, 2018. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
