A Guelph male faces charges after he assaulted an employee at a downtown business Monday.

Just before noon, the employee called to report a male known to him was trespassing at the business, from which he has been indefinitely banned.

The male is also on an undertaking issued by Guelph Police with a condition not to attend the business.

The male left the business while the employee was on the phone with police. But when the employee went outside to ensure the male had left the property, the male approached him from behind and allegedly punched the employee in the side of the head.

The victim felt dizzy afterwards but declined medical attention.

Responding officers located the suspect a short distance away and arrested him. A 25-year-old male is charged with assault, two counts of breaching an undertaking and two counts of breaching probation.

He will appear in a Guelph court May 18.
