Police respond to broom swinging incident that ends in multiple charges

Just before 10 a.m. on Apr. 10, police were called to a Gordon Street establishment when a man began swinging a broom at other patrons there.

The incident quickly began to involve other people and at some point, one man armed himself with a knife. One man received minor cuts that did not require medical attention and another woman received minor cuts that did require some medical attention.

Police arrived to investigate and took two men into custody that were still on scene there. There were a number of items of stolen property that were found in the possession of one of the men.

A 45-year-old man from Guelph is charged with a total of 13 assault, weapons, breach of probation and property related offences.

The second man is a 33-year-old from Guelph who is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon.

Both men were held in custody to appear in bail court.
