A Guelph man faces theft and obstruction charges after he was arrested for shoplifting Sunday.

About 1:40 p.m., the Guelph Police Service was called to a store on Eramosa Road near Stevenson Street North for a report of a theft in progress. Police arrived and determined a male had placed more than $340 worth of product in his backpack and a shopping bag.

When the man was detained he provided a name and date of birth which were later determined to be fake.

A 31-year-old Guelph man is charged with theft under $5,000 and obstruct police. He will appear in a Guelph court May 7.
