Police say debt collection turned violent

A Guelph man faces assault, weapons and drug charges after another man was allegedly assaulted Tuesday morning.

Approximately 7:20 a.m. police say an adult male was leaving an apartment building on Carden Street when he was confronted in the lobby about an alleged outstanding debt. The victim was threatened and punched in the face. He declined medical attention.

A man was located in the area a short time later and arrested. During a search incident to arrest officers located a black BB gun, suspected Oxycodone, a functioning scale and other drug paraphernalia.

A 36-year-old man is charged with assault, uttering death threats, carrying a concealed weapon, possession for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of breaching court orders. He was held for a bail hearing Thursday.
