Police say video a factor in two separate bike thefts

Bike theft – arrests

On November 9, 2016 at 3:32 p.m., the Guelph Police went to the Guelph Public Library on Norfolk Street for the report that two people believed to be responsible for a bike theft were there.

It is alleged that this male and female had stolen a bike from the library on November 8, 2016.

Video captured them stealing the bike and employees recognized the two when they returned. Police investigation then led to both being arrested.

Richard Austin, 37 years of no fixed address, has been charged with theft under $5,000. He will appear in court on December 20, 2016.

Amber Minns, 25 years of no fixed address, has been charged with theft under $5,000. She will appear in court on December 20, 2016.

Bike theft – arrests

On October 18, 2016 the Guelph Police began an investigation into the theft of an electric bicycle that had been stolen from Wyndham Street North.

Two males were captured on video, one cut the lock securing the bike and the males left the area with it.

Investigation identified the males and both were then sought by police.

On October 25, 2016 Dominic Furlano, 31 years of Guelph, was arrested. He has been charged with theft under $5,000 and breach of probation. He will appear in court on November 15, 2016.

On November 9, 2016 Michael Matte, 40 years of Guelph, was arrested. He has been charged with theft under $5,000 and two counts of breach of probation. He will appear in court on December 23, 2016.
