On Saturday, July 29, 2017 the Guelph Police Service were called to a home in the west end to assist paramedics with a medical situation. Upon arrival, based on their observations, police entered into a drugs and weapons investigation. The priority was to ensure there was no danger to the public.
Police arrested a 28-year-old Guelph male for unauthorized possession of a firearm. A female resident was taken to the Guelph General Hospital for medical attention, unrelated to the firearm.
Police held the scene and, in the late hours of July 29th, executed a search warrant. It is alleged that items police seized were used to produce a Schedule 1 Substance, specifically methamphetamine. Furthermore, it is alleged that items police seized were used to make an explosive device.
As a result of the investigation, the 28-year-old male was charged with several more drugs and weapons related offences. The following is the complete list of charges that the 28-year-old male is facing:
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a firearm knowing possession is unauthorized
- Careless storage of a firearm
- Careless storage of ammunition
- Make explosive without lawful excuse
- Production of a schedule 1 substance
- Possess anything knowing that it will be used to produce a Schedule 1 Substance
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance X3
In the morning hours of Sunday, July 30, 2017 a 52-year-old Guelph female was arrested as part of the investigation. She is facing the following charges:
- Production of a schedule 1 substance
- Possess anything knowing that it will be used to produce a Schedule 1 Substance
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance X3
- Breach of probation
The female was released with a September 1, 2017 court date.
The male was held for a bail hearing and was remanded.
There will no further arrests in this incident.
