Police spot vehicle stopped at green light. Driver charged with impaired

Accused also charged with driving 100 km/h in a 60 km/h zone

On Feb. 21, 2020 at 11:50 p.m., police were patrolling south bound on Gordon Street in the City of Guelph in a fully marked cruiser when a vehicle was observed stopped at the Stone Road West intersection facing a green light. The vehicle eventually proceeded southbound through the intersection and sped up to the point of driving 100 km/h in a 60 km/h zone.

A traffic stop was initiated near the intersection of Clair Road West, and police spoke with the male driver who ultimately failed an approved screening device roadside breath test.

A 44-year-old Toronto male has been charged with:
    •    Operation while impaired, blood alcohol concentration
    •    Speeding – 100 km/h in a 60 km/h zone
    •    Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero
    •    Green light – fail to proceed
    •    Fail to surrender insurance card

He will appear in court on March 13, 2020.
