Police stop vehicle after 'poor driving manoeuvre'

GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP - On Mar. 16, 2017 at approximately 1 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle for a poor driving manoeuvre on Main Street, in the Village of Rockwood, Guelph-Eramosa Township.

The driver had cut off an OPP cruiser.

During the traffic stop the driver exhibited obvious signs of impairment, admitted to recently smoking marijuana and surrendered about 10 grams of cannabis marijuana.

He was placed under arrest and transported to a local OPP Operation Centre for further testing. After being evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) officer the driver was deemed impaired by cannabis marihuana.

26-year-old Gordon James Hunter, of Milton, has been charged with driving while impaired by drug contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and possessing a Schedule II Substance under 30 grams contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. 

He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Apr. 11, 2017 to answer to the charges.

His driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.
