Police tip leads to drug charges

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on July 20, police received information regarding a man asleep behind the wheel of a pickup on Inverness Drive. The man was awoken by police and the interaction with the him led officers to believe that his ability to operate the motor vehicle was impaired. The male was arrested and then found to be in possession of quantities of drugs believed to marijuana and cocaine.

At the station, breath samples did not detect any alcohol and samples of his urine were collected for analysis.

Kevin Hewitt, a 32-year-old Guelph man, was charged with impaired care and control of a motor vehicle by drug, and two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking. He was later released and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 29, 2017.
