What started as a medical call for a possible overdose Wednesday evening ended with a male in custody for robbery and aggravated assault.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, the Guelph Police Service was requested to attend with ambulance to a business on Silvercreek Parkway North near Speedvale Avenue West for a report of two people possibly overdosing outside. One of the parties was identified as a 37-year-old Guelph man police wanted in connection with a robbery inside a downtown Guelph apartment earlier this week.

Early Monday morning police located an injured male lying on a sidewalk on Carden Street near Wyndham Street North. He reported he had been beaten and robbed inside a nearby apartment and was transported to hospital for treatment of head injuries.

On Wednesday evening, the man involved in the call on Silvercreek Parkway North declined medical attention, but was still taken to Guelph General Hospital to be medically cleared.

He is charged with robbery, aggravated assault and two counts of breaching a probation order. He was held in custody for a bail hearing Thursday.
