The Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers (OACS) tapped Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW) for three awards during the 2017 Provincial Conference in Waterloo Region, June 8-11.

The first award was for Online Excellence, which incorporates social media awareness as well as website design and use. This is a new category for OACS and was open to all programs, regardless of size.

CSGW is active on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and recently redesigned their website.

Best Radio Feature for a Program with a Population under 300,000 was the second honor. This award is shared with 88.7 FM The River and was a submission from the morning show featuring host Rob Mattice and Program Coordinator Sarah Bowers-Peter.

The final award is the Marla Moon Memorial Award of Excellence for a Program with a Population under 300,000. This is the second year in a row that CSGW has earned this accolade, which recognizes tip volume, crime resolution as well as community outreach, media engagement, volunteer hours, and relationships with police and investigative partners.

“We were pleased to see members of CSGW attend the Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers Provincial Training Conference this past weekend,” stated Donald G. Hawkins, OACS president. “I was very pleased to see that Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington was again recognized this year during our award presentations. Congratulations to all members of your program for receiving this recognition. These awards have great significance to our organization and demonstrate outstanding commitment from the members of Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington.”

“The board of directors and staff are absolutely delighted to receive these awards,” said Program Coordinator Sarah Bowers-Peter. “We are very proud of the program, and the strides we have made in recent years. We couldn’t do it without our volunteers, our police and investigative partners, our media partners, and of course, the public who support our fundraisers and provide us with tips. We hope these awards assure the residents of the City of Guelph and County of Wellington that we are an effective program that is working hard to keep them safe, and solve crime.”
