Refusal to let cruiser pass leads to stunt driving charge

(MAPLETON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On September 4, 2016 at approximately 11:07 p.m. members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were travelling at 140 km/h on Wellington Road 109 near Concession 9 in Mapleton Township, enroute to a heated domestic dispute occurrence.

While enroute to the call the officer pulled out to pass a 2007 Audi that was travelling westbound in front of him. The Audi driver accelerated to the same speed as the cruiser to prevent it from passing. The officer had to brake hard to avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle.

A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was charged.  

The driver’s licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute. 

19-year-old Jacob Boese of Mapleton Township has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle - Perform Stunt - Speeding by 50 Km/h or more - Prevent Passing contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.  He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court on October 5, 2016 to answer to the charge.
