A man and woman face charges after a downtown resident found a woman in his apartment Sunday.

Police were called just after 1 p.m. Sunday to a residence in the area of Macdonell Street and Wyndham Street North. Officers arrived within minutes and found the woman still inside along with some property she was preparing to remove.

Investigation revealed a man and woman had broken into an adjacent unit and then gained entry to the victim’s residence. A review of surveillance video revealed a man had also entered and left the unit several times prior to police arrival.

The man was located a few hours later. A search incident to arrest revealed some of the victim’s property as well as a butterfly-style knife.

A 22-year-old Guelph man and 19-year-old Guelph woman are jointly charged with two counts of break and enter as well as breaching probation. The man is further charged with possessing stolen property and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Both were to appear in bail court Monday.
