RIDE check leads to impaired charge

TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH - On Aug. 11, 2019 members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on Arkell Road near Guelph. At approximately 4:30 p.m. the driver of a grey sedan entered the R.I.D.E. check.

While speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. A Roadside Screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

As a result of the investigation, Robert W. Killam, 51-years-old of Cambridge has been charged with Impaired Operation - 80 Plus (mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood) contrary to the Criminal Code. A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice - Guelph on September 10, 2019.

TOWNSHIP OF MAPLETON - On Aug. 10, 2019, at approximately 11:30 p.m. the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a possible impaired driver operating a white sedan on Side Road 6 near Moorefield. Officers located and stopped the driver.

While speaking with the driver, officers formed the opinion that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The driver was arrested and brought to a local OPP operations centre for further testing.

As a result of the investigation Peter Wiebe, 23-years-old of Palmerston, has been charged with Impaired Operation and Impaired Operation 80 Plus (mg of alcohol per 100mL of blood). A 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and 7-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on September 13, 2019.

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, call police at 911 to report it.
