RIDE check leads to seizure of pot and methamphetamine

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017 members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on Wellington Road 21, Inverhaugh.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. the driver of a Chrysler sedan entered the R.I.D.E. check.

While speaking with the occupants, officers detected the odour of fresh marihuana and suspected that they were in the possession of a controlled substance.

The occupants were arrested and the search incident to arrest revealed both cannabis marijuana and methamphetamine. Further investigation revealed that his driver's licence was suspended.

Forty-six-year-old Jeffery W. Pyne of Kitchener and 52-year-old Charlene Yvonne Pringle of Elmira have both been charged with possessing methamphetamine contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Pyne was also charged with driving while suspended contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

They are both scheduled to appear in Guelph Court on Dec. 15, 2017.
