RIDE check results in drug charges

On Saturday, Dec. 9 2017 members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) check on the Hanlon Expressway, Guelph. At approximately 2 a.m. the driver of a black Volkswagen sedan entered the R.I.D.E. check.

While speaking with the male driver, officers detected the odour of fresh marijuana and believed that he was in the possession of a controlled substance.

He was arrested and a search revealed the driver was in possession of marijuana, cocaine and assorted drug trafficking equipment.

20-year-old Stephan Ranleigh Neil Salmon of Etobicoke has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine and possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana under 3kg contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He was held for a bail hearing.
