RIDE checks result in two males facing charges

Both drivers had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicles impounded for a period of seven days

Two separate Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) checks in Wellington County overnight July 18, 2017 resulted in two drivers being charged with over 80.

On July 18, 2017 at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers were conducting RIDE checks on Main Street North near Birmingham Street, Town of Mount Forest. A male driver of a silver 2010 Mazda B40 entered the RIDE check. 

While speaking with the driver, the officer formed the opinion that he was under the influence of alcohol. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing. 

Twenty-one-year-old Sheldon MacDonald of Kitchener has been charged with driving with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100mL of blood contrary to the Criminal Code. He was also charged with drive motor vehicle with no insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Aug. 25, 2017 to answer to the charges.

Just after midnight July 19, 2017, officers were conducting RIDE checks on the Hanlon Expressway near College Avenue, City of Guelph. A male driving a 2017 Hyundai entered the RIDE check.

While speaking with the driver the officer observed signs of alcohol consumption. A roadside screening test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and brought to a local OPP Operations Centre for further testing.

Twenty-eight-year-old Douglas Masson of Guelph has been charged with over 80 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He was also charged with possession of marijuana contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Aug. 25, 2017 to answer to the charges.
