TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Monday, March 25, 2019 at approximately 3:45 p.m., the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police were in the area of Darroch Way and Millburn Boulevard in Fergus. The streets and sidewalks were filled with pedestrian traffic including students and parents as school had recently let out.

An officer observed a grey sport utility vehicle slow down to make a right hand turn onto Millburn Boulevard then accelerate away at an exceptionally high rate of speed while driving into the on-coming lane. Pedestrians fearing for the safety were forced to jump back from the roadway as the vehicle continued past the Centre Wellington District High School at a high rate of speed.

Levi Vanderlaan, 20-years-old of Elora, has been charged with careless driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Provincial Court in May, 2019 to answer to the charge.
