On the morning of May 26, 2020, a 73 year old female was sitting in her vehicle in the parking lot of a commercial plaza located near the intersection of Paisley Street and Norfolk Street in the City of Guelph when an unknown adult male approached her. He advised that her vehicle was leaking some kind of oil. The female exited her vehicle, observed an oily substance sprayed on the rear driver’s side of the vehicle, thanked the male and drove off.

The male is described as:

  • middle aged
  • average height
  • heavy set
  • slightly balding
  • well dressed
  • spoke with an accent

When the female arrived home, she checked her purse and found that her wallet was missing. Her wallet contained numerous items including credit cards, debit cards, health card, driver’s licence and $30 cash.

At 11:55 a.m., three attempts were made to remove money from the female’s account at a bank located near the intersection of Eramosa Road and Stevenson Street North. The attempts were unsuccessful and the cards were left behind.

The Guelph Police Service would like to speak with the two people in the attached pictures in relation to the incident.

The Guelph Police Service has been in communication with neighboring police services in regards to this incident and has learned that numerous similar incidents have occurred recently in other jurisdictions. It appears that more mature adults are targeted in these incidents. We would like to remind the public to very cautious and vigilant when approached by someone they don’t know.
