Shoplifting investigation leads to fentanyl charge

Police allege a man left a north end store with $163 in stolen items under his shirt

On May 25, 2020, at approximately 11:53 a.m., a male entered a retail store on Woodlawn Road West near Woolwich Street in the City of Guelph. A loss prevention officer observed the male conceal a number of items and leave the store. Upon being placed under arrest by Guelph Police, the male was found to be in possession of one gram of fentanyl.

Police also located $162.63 worth of stolen product that was returned to the store.

The 24-year-old Guelph male was charged with Theft Under $5,000, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Breach of Probation. The male was held for a Bail Hearing.
