Six drivers, same location, all clocked traveling more than 50 km/h over speed limit

In all cases the driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days

Wellington County OPP officers patrolling county roadways continue to find drivers exceeding the speed limit putting themselves and others at risk. Several drivers saw their vehicles impounded due to driver in excess of 50 km/h over the posted speed limit.

On Oct. 14, 2017 at approximately 10 a.m., an officer was monitoring traffic on Highway 6, near Laird Road, City of Guelph. The officer observed a male driving a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at 145 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.  

Twenty-one-year-old Nicholas Clifford-Rakush of Guelph has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Dec. 6, 2017.  

Later that day at approximately 4:15 p.m. at the same location, an officer monitoring traffic observed a female driving a 2016 Dodge Ram at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at 150 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

Twenty-five-year-old Emma Jean Watson of Melancthon Township has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Dec. 6, 2017. 

Moments later at approximately 4:20 p.m. at the same location, an officer monitoring traffic observed a male driving a 2005 Ford F150 at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at 140 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.  

Twenty-five-year-old El Mahdi Benkhedda of Mississauga has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Dec. 6, 2017.

On Oct. 17, 2017 at approximately 11 p.m., an officer was monitoring traffic at the above location and observed a male driving a 2012 Hyundai Sonota at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at 151 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

Nineteen-year-old Noah Robert Burns of Woodstock has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Dec. 6, 2017.

On Oct. 18, 2017 at approximately 1 a.m. at the above location, an officer observed a female driving a 2012 Toyota Rav 4 at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at 137 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

Eighteen-year-old Megan Lynn Russell of Kitchener has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Dec. 6, 2017. 

On Oct. 19, 2017 at approximately 12:55 a.m. at the above location, an officer observed a male driving a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu 4 at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at 133 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. 

Twenty-four-year-old Brodie Davis of Ancaster has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Dec. 6, 2017. 

In all of the above cases the driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
