On Jan. 25, 2020, at approximately 10:30 p.m. an Ontario Provincial Police officer responded to a medical assist call on the Hanlon Expressway in the City of Guelph. It was reported that two parties were asleep in a sedan on the shoulder of the highway with the engine running.

Officer attended and located the sedan on the side of the highway with one tire separated from the rim. Officers awoke the driver and while speaking with them, formed the opinion that they were impaired by a drug. The driver was transported to a local hospital as a precaution. A Drug Recognition Expert (D.R.E.) officer conducted further testing and concluded that the driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by drug.

As a result, Nicolas Claude Dupuis, 20 years old of Oakville, has been charged with impaired operation and dangerous operation contrary to the Criminal Code.

A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (ADLS) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of justice - Guelph on Feb. 25, 2020.

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, call police at 911 to report it.
