On March 16, 2018 at approximately 5:15 p.m., emergency services were called to the intersection of Stevenson Street and Bennett Street, where there was a report of a serious collision.

It is alleged a Chevrolet Volt, being driven by a 45-year-old Guelph man, was southbound on Stevenson Street and crossed the centre line. The vehicle then collided with a northbound Dodge Caliber, being driven by a 56-year-old Guelph man.

As a result of this collision, the driver of the Dodge sustained major injuries and was transported to the Trauma Centre at Hamilton General Hospital. Stevenson Street was closed for several hours due to the police investigation.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 45-year-old Mark Bertelsen, was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle cause bodily harm. He was given an April 24, 2018 court date.

Male arrested for damage at city hall

On March 16, 2018, at approximately 8:35 a.m., a male entered city hall and is alleged to have caused damage to equipment located at a desk, in the front entrance area.

The male then left prior to police arrival. The identity of the suspect was known and the male was located a short distance away.

Nathan Falkner, a 22-year-old male, was arrested and charged with mischief under $5,000. He was given an April 24, 2018 court date.
