Stolen vehicle recovered after driver fled from police

On March 13, 2018 at approximately 5:50 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of stolen vehicle from Guelph-Nichol Town Line, Township of Guelph-Eramosa. The caller reported a 2015 GMC Sierra was stolen from their residence and another vehicle was left in its place. That vehicle was on file as stolen as well.

At approximately 6 p.m., the stolen truck was observed traveling south on County 29, Township of Guelph Eramosa. An officer initiated a traffic stop however the driver fled from police. 

The stolen vehicle, which was equipped with OnStar, was eventually remotely disabled by the OnStar operator. It was stopped on County Road 124 and surrounded by police cruisers.

Twenty-year-old Dustin James Lucas of Guelph has been charged with the following criminal offences:

  • Flight while pursued by peace officer
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Assault a peace officer with a weapon
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Fail to comply with recognizance x2

He was held for bail.
