Surrounded by cops, driver accused of trying to smash his way out, striking officer

On Thursday September 21, 2017 at approximately 4:30 p.m. the police attempted to arrest a 28-year-old male from Waterloo for possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. 

The male’s vehicle was surrounded by unmarked police vehicles at the intersection of Curtis Drive and Silvercreek Parkway North. 

As officers attempted to take the male into custody, the accused repeatedly struck multiple police vehicles in numerous directions in an effort to escape. 

A police officer was struck by the male's motor vehicle, however sustained no serious injuries. Eventually the male was able to flee in his vehicle. 

Later that same evening the accused was arrested at his residence in Waterloo and held for a bail hearing.

The accused was charged with dangerous driving, assault with intent to resist arrest, and fail to remain.

The officer struck by the vehicle did not require medical attention.
