Suspected catalytic converter thief then bites resident

A Brampton man faces several charges after he bit someone who caught him trying to steal a catalytic converter in Guelph early Wednesday.

Just before 2 a.m. Guelph Police were called to the area of Victoria Road North and Mussen Street. A male was attempting to remove the catalytic converter from a van when he was observed by neighours, who interrupted the theft and detained the suspect.

While waiting for police, the suspect bit one of the neighbours on his arm, causing an abrasion. Officers arrived a short time later and arrested the man. His female accomplice fled in her vehicle prior to police arrival.

A 24-year-old Brampton male is charged with theft under $5,000, assault, mischief under $5,000 and failing to comply with a release order. He was held for a bail hearing Wednesday.
