6 p.m. update

The Guelph Police and Waterloo Regional Police have concluded their investigation into a suspicious item located at Riverside Park.

"The item looked similar to an explosive device but was found to be a toy and not the real thing," say police. "Thank you for your patience."

The park has now been fully reopened.

Guelph Police are currently on the scene at Riverside Park dealing with a suspicious package.

Police have cordoned off the area in the north end of the park near the sports fields.

They are asking people to stay away from the area.

Waterloo Region Police Explosives Disposal Unit is on the way to deal with the package.

Police have been on scene for approximately an hour.

The park's playground remains open.
