A Guelph teen faces theft and robbery charges after a younger student had an expensive jacket and backpack stolen.

Guelph police report that during the first week of March, the 15-year-old victim was inside his high school in Guelph when he was approached by a 16-year-old student who asked to try on the younger boy’s designer backpack. The older boy took the backpack and walked away, refusing several requests to return it.

On Tuesday of this week the older boy asked to try on the victim’s designer jacket but the younger boy refused. Later that day as the victim was walking outside the school the older boy punched him in the face several times and took the jacket. The victim suffered bumps and bruises on his face and head.

On Thursday the 16-year-old was arrested and charged with robbery and theft under $5,000. He will appear in a Guelph court July 7. The stolen property was not recovered.
