Three accused of impaired driving in different incidents

All three Guelph area drivers have lost their licenses for 90 days, their vehicles have been impounded for seven days and they all face serious charges

TOWN OF ERIN - On Oct. 7, 2017 at approximately 8:55 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a suspicious male in a vehicle on Erindale Drive, Town of Erin.

Officers responded and found a male in the driver's seat of a vehicle clearly intoxicated by alcohol. He was arrested for care or control and transported to a local OPP Detachment for testing.

Twenty-seven-year-old Kyran Maine of Erin, Ont. has been charged with care or control over 80 and care or control while impaired contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to attend Guelph Court on Nov. 17, 2017.

TOWNSHIP OF CENTRE WELLINGTON - On Oct. 7, 2017 at approximately 9:20 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of an erratic driver travelling on Townline Road, Township of Guelph-Eramosa.

While patrolling for the vehicle OPP were advised that it had now crashed into a ditch on the Eramosa-Garafraxa Townline, just east of Fifth Line Township of Centre-Wellington.

OPP attended and spoke with the driver who was showing signs of impairment.

Twenty-year-old Spencer Kopelchak of Burlington has been charged with driving while ability impaired by drug contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day vehicle impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to attend Guelph Court on Nov. 14, 2017.

TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH - On Oct. 8, 2017 at approximately 3:35 a.m. a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer on general patrol observed a vehicle pulled off to the side of the road with a male driver (slumped) over the steering wheel on Highway 6 near Sideroad 10, Township of Wellington North.

The officer was able to gain entry to the vehicle and wake the male up. The male driver was observed to be exhibiting signs of impairment by alcohol.  

Twenty-six-year-old Grant Wilson has been charged with impaired driving and driving with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 mL of blood contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. A 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute. He is scheduled to attend Guelph Court on Nov. 17, 2017.

If you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired, either by drug or alcohol, you can call police at 911 to report it.
