Three accused of racing in separate incidents

Police say a 2010 Matrix was clocked going 133 in an 80 zone

CITY OF GUELPH - Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers laid several racing charges over the weekend while monitoring traffic on Highway 6.

On Mar. 25, 2017 at approximately 12 a.m. a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Highway 6 near Laird Road in the City of Guelph. 

The officer observed a male driving a 2009 Chrysler van travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at approximately 133 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

18-year-old Spencer Carrick of Guelph has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on May 3, 2017.

On Mar. 25, 2017 at approximately 9 p.m. a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Highway 6 near Laird Road in the City of Guelph. 

The officer observed a male driving a 2000 Nissan Maxima travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at approximately 143 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

22-year-old Nicholas Rendeiro, of Mississauga, has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on May 3, 2017.

On Mar. 26, 2017 at approximately 9:15 p.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Highway 6 near Laird Road in the City of Guelph. 

The officer observed a male driving a 2010 Toyota Matrix travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at approximately 133 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

69-year-old John Vandergrift, of Guelph, has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on May 3, 2017.

In all cases the vehicles were impounded and the drivers licence seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
