CITY OF GUELPH, ON - On February 27, 2017 at approximately 2:28 a.m., a member of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting radar and monitoring traffic on Highway 6 near Laird Road in the City of Guelph. The officer observed a northbound 2005 Dodge travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at approximately 133 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

[Name removed] of Ottawa has been charged with Race a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on March 15, 2017 to answer to the charge.

CENTRE WELLINGTON TOWNSHIP, ON - On Feb. 25, 2017 at approximately 8:34 a.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a single motor vehicle collision on Wellington Road 18 near the Second Line in Centre Wellington Township.

Police arrived at the scene and observed a 2008 Honda on the north shoulder resting on its roof and driver's door. While speaking with the male driver officers detected the strong odour of alcohol on his breath and noted physical signs of possible impairment and he was placed under arrest.

He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Breath samples for analysis were provided at the hospital.

A 30-year-old from Kitchener has been charged with Impaired Driving and Over 80 Mgs contrary to the Criminal Code. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on March 31, 2017 to answer to his charges.

His driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for a period of seven days as per statute.

TOWN OF MINTO, ON - On Feb. 27, 2017 at approximately 7:49 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended an apartment complex on Main Street in Palmerston, Town of Minto in regards to an ongoing criminal investigation.

While there, officers observed a male party that was known to police and that was wanted on outstanding warrants. The male attempted to evade police by climbing out an apartment window, scaling a ledge and trying to gain entry into an adjacent apartment. He removed a screen and access was gained. The male made an effort to flee out the back door, however, turned himself in to police when he realized the building was surrounded.

He was arrested and searched and found to be in possession of break-in tools.

Further investigation revealed that he was also breaching conditions of a probation order and recognizance.

A 41-year-old of Palmerston has been charged with the following Criminal Code Offences:

  • Possession of Break-in Instruments
  • Break Enter a Dwelling With Intent to Commit Indictable Offence
  • Mischief Under $5000
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance

He was held in custody for a Bail Hearing.
