COUNTY OF WELLINGTON - On July 28, 2017 at approximately 3 a.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Parkway, near Stone Road, City of Guelph.
The officer observed a male driving a Mitsubishi Outlander travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at 112 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.
Thirty-two-year-old Ahmad Alhilal of Guelph has been charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Sept. 6, 2017.
His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute. He was also charged with possess unmarked cigarettes contrary to the Tobacco Tax Act.
On July 28, 2017 at approximately 2 p.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on County Road 12, Township of Mapleton. The officer observed a male driving a Honda Civic travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at 132 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
A 17-year-old youth from Mapleton was charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Sept. 6, 2017. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
On July 30, 2017 at approximately 9:45 a.m., a Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Highway 6, South of Arthur in Mapleton Township.
The officer observed a male driving a Chevrolet Truck travelling at a speed that appeared to be well above the posted speed limit. The vehicle was locked on radar at 135 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
Twenty-year-old Luis Ramos was charged with race a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and will appear in Guelph Provincial Court on Sept. 6, 2017. His driver's licence and vehicle were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
