Three drivers face impaired charges

A patrol officer observed a grey Ford pickup truck being driven in an erratic manner on Waterloo Avenue just before 4 a.m. on Oct. 14 and stopped the vehicle to investigate. The driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested. The male driver had his driver licence suspended previously and was also found in possession of a quantity of cocaine and marijuana.

Alexander Hiyabu, 30 years of age from Guelph, was charged with impaired driving, drive a motor vehicle over .08mgs, two counts of drug possession and novice driver - operate with blood alcohol above zero. He will appear in court in November.

At approximately 3:20 a.m. on Oct 15, police responded to a vehicle that had left the roadway near the corner of Stone Road/College Avenue, striking a fence and tree. Interaction with the driver led police believe that the female driver’s ability to operate the motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and that belief was confirmed when she registered a ‘fail’ on an approved roadside screening device. Additional testing at the station registered readings that were above the legal limit.

[Charge dismissed] from Toronto, was charged with drive a motor vehicle over .08mgs and novice driver - operate with blood alcohol above zero. She will appear in a Guelph court at a later date.

Just before 4 a.m. on Oct. 16, police observed a male operating a motorized bicycle erratically on Willow Road and when they stopped it, they found the driver’s ability impaired by alcohol. The male registered a ‘fail’ on an approved roadside screening device and was arrested.

David Kolwich, a 44-year-old Guelph man, was charged with impaired care and control of a motor vehicle and care and control of a motor vehicle - over .08mgs, breach of probation and driving while disqualified. He was later released to appear in court in November.
