Three teens charged after fentanyl, loaded handgun seized

On March 31, 2020, members of the Guelph Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit and the Tactics and Rescue Unit attended to the downtown core of the City of Guelph in regards to a drug trafficking investigation.

At 7:05 p.m., a teenage male was arrested at the driver’s door of a vehicle. A search incident to arrest revealed he was in possession of a loaded 9 mm handgun, a large amount of cash and a cellular telephone.

An adult male fled the area on foot but was arrested very quickly a short distance away. A search incident to arrest revealed he was in possession of fentanyl, a large amount of cash and a cellular telephone.

A second teenage male was located at a nearby residence and was subsequently arrested. A search incident to arrest revealed he was in possession of cash and a cellular telephone.

All three males have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking - Schedule I - fentanyl.

A 16-year-old Toronto male has been additionally charged with:
    •    Unauthorized possession of a firearm
    •    Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
    •    Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
    •    Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device
    •    Carry a concealed weapon
    •    Contravention use, storage, handling, transport of firearm
    •    Weapons dangerous

An 18-year-old Toronto male has been additionally charged with:
    •    Breach Youth Criminal Justice Act probation x2

A 16-year-old Toronto male has been additionally charged with:
    •    Breach recognizance
    •    Breach Youth Criminal Justice Act probation x2

They were held in custody pending a bail hearing on April 1.

The items seized from this incident include:
    •    9 mm loaded handgun
    •    fentanyl - 7.19 grams
    •    close to $5,000 in cash

Please note that this is the second loaded firearm that the Guelph Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit, with the assistance of other Guelph Police Service units, has seized this week. As we all respond to the challenges faced by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Guelph Police Service will continue to ensure that we are focused on arresting individuals that choose to endanger members of our community.
