In the last 24 hours, the Guelph Police Service dealt with 230 calls for service

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Several shoplifting incidents
On April 18, 2018, at approximately 11:50 a.m., Guelph police were called to a hardware store on Woodlawn Road for a report of a shoplifter. Josh Henderson, a 33-year-old Guelph man, was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000.

On April 18, 2018 at approximately 3:22 p.m., Guelph police were called to a department store on Stone Road, where there was a report of a shoplifting in progress incident. Police were able to arrive quickly and located the suspect, who fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the male was apprehended.
The 32-year-old Guelph man was charged with theft under $5,000 and breach of probation. Wellington County O.P.P. were notified of the incident as the male was wanted out of that jurisdiction. The male was held for a bail hearing.

On April 18, 2018 at approximately 3:30 p.m., Guelph police were called to a hardware store on Woodlawn Road for a report of a shoplifter. An 18-year-old Guelph male was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000, breaching his Officer in Charge Undertaking and breaching an YCJA (Youth Criminal Justice Act) Probation Order. He was held for a bail hearing.

On April 18, 2016, at approximately 4:40 p.m., Guelph police were called to an LCBO in the south end, where an off duty police officer recognized a male that was wanted for several shoplifting incidents. Craig Anderson, a 48-year-old Guelph man, was arrested and charged with three counts of theft under $5,000 involving various LCBO stores throughout Guelph. He was given a May 29, 2018 court date.

Collision
On April 18, 2018, at approximately 4:20 a.m., Guelph police were called to the intersection of Wellington Street East and Wyndham Street South, where there was a report of a collision. Investigation alleges a vehicle was westbound on Wellington Street East, veered off the roadway and struck a hydro pole.

The driver, a 36-year-old Guelph man, was taken to Guelph General Hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries. He was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
