Stolen credit card, collisions, winter driving tips, calls for service

The following are news releases issued by the Guelph Police Service:

On Oct. 10, 2017 a Walman Drive resident reported to police that the family vehicle was entered and a number of personal banking cards were taken from inside. Those stolen cards later were used at two retail locations to purchase merchandise. Investigation led to the identification of the responsible male who was located on Dec. 13 at the courthouse when he was appearing for another unrelated matter.

The 34-year-old Guelph man is charged with two counts of possession of a stolen credit card, two counts of unauthorized use of a credit card and two counts of breach of probation. He was held in custody and will appear in bail court today.

Over the course of the day on Dec. 13, police responded to 12 collisions where there were some minor injuries reported in four of the incidents.

Winter driving season is upon us and everyone needs to make adjustments to allow for the change in road conditions. Those adjustments need to include some simple steps;

  • Leave earlier - Give yourself more time to get to where you are going to allow for a slower/longer drive
  • Slow down and give yourself more distance to stop when you are following other vehicles
  • Check to make sure that all your exterior lighting is turned on- not just the running lights which a default setting for many model of cars.
  • Properly defrost your all of your vehicle’s windows and clear off any snow before you head out on the road-  Having your exterior lights covered by snow and using a little spot to look out your windshield to drive until the rest of the windshield defrosts is an unsafe condition to operate your motor vehicle.
  • Get snow- rated tires on your vehicles – they are specifically engineered to enhance driving performance in winter conditions especially when it comes to stopping and road traction. They do make a difference

Over the course of the day on Dec. 13, 2017 the Guelph Police Service responded to 208 calls for service.
