Weapon call On May 18, 2016 at 10:05 a.m., the Guelph Police went to the Commercial Street area for the report of a male carrying a shotgun. Two area schools were put into hold and secure while police searched the area.

On May 18, 2016 at 10:05 a.m., the Guelph Police went to the Commercial Street area for the report of a male carrying a shotgun. Two area schools were put into hold and secure while police searched the area. The male was located and it was discovered that he had a pellet gun and was shooting at a bird.

The 18-year-old male has been charged under the bylaw for discharging a firearm within the city.

Shoplifter arrested

On May 18, 2016 at 8 p.m., the Guelph Police went to Walmart to assist with a shoplifter. A male was being observed by Loss Prevention officers concealing items and called police. Police located the male as he left the store with items he did not pay for. A search also located a prohibited knife. The male was arrested,  brought back to the station and later released with a court date. Police then received information that the male had verbally identified using a false name. He was located and further investigation determined that he had falsely identified. He was arrested.

A 22-year-old Barrie male has been charged with theft under $5,000, obstruct police, personation with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon and breach of recognizance. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing on May 19, 2016.
