Guelph Police responded to 189 calls for service

The following news releases were issued today by the Guelph Police Service:

Honda Civic stolen
On Sept. 30, 2020 just before 8:30 p.m., a black 2012 Honda Civic was taken from out front of a gas station located near the intersection of Silvercreek Parkway North and Willow Road in the City of Guelph. The vehicle had been left unlocked with the keys inside while the owner went in to the store to pay. The vehicle contained numerous items including:
    •    Brown leather Levi’s wallet
    •    $300 in Canadian currency
    •    Black iPhone 11

The Guelph Police Service would like to remind the public to always lock your vehicles and to never leave keys or valuables inside your vehicles.

Theft from motor vehicle leads to fraud
Some time between 9 p.m. on Sept. 29 and 8:50 a.m. on Sept. 30, 2020, a motor vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence located near the intersection of Woolwich Street and Speedvale Avenue West in the City of Guelph was entered. Entry was gained as the vehicle was left unlocked. Numerous items were taken including:
    •    Wallet containing a credit card
    •    Loose change from the cup holder

The credit card was then used to make two online purchases for a total of $448.

Male arrested for shoplifting
On Sept. 30, 2020 just after 12:30 p.m., [it is alleged that] an adult male shoplifted $31.62 worth of merchandise from a store located near the intersection of Stone Road West and Edinburgh Road South in the City of Guelph. The merchandise included socks and vice grips. The male was stopped by the store’s loss prevention officer, the Guelph Police Service was notified and the male was subsequently arrested.

A 48-year-old Guelph male has been charged with theft under $5,000.

He will appear in court on Jan. 29, 2021.

Multiple motor vehicle collisions and driving complaints
Over the past 24 hours the Guelph Police Service received reports of seven motor vehicle collisions and four driving complaints occurring throughout the City of Guelph.

The Guelph Police Service would like to remind the public to slow down and follow the rules of the road to help ensure everyone arrives to their destination safely.

When submitting your record check request, please remember the following:
    •    Ensure that the information you are entering online is correct, especially your name, date of birth, address and type of record check.
    •    When picking up your completed record check you will be asked to provide government issued identification. If the data on the identification does not match your record check, your record check will be voided and you will need to reapply.
    •    Record check application fees are not refundable.
    •    Read the terms and conditions page carefully as you are required to accept the terms in order for your online application to be processed.

The Guelph Police Service only undertakes record checks for people who currently reside in the City of Guelph. Residents who live in areas such as Rockwood or Fergus will need to contact the Ontario Provincial Police. For your reference please visit here.
