TOWN OF ERIN - On Friday, June 22, 2018 at approximately 8:30 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a public assistance event on Main Street, Erin.

Initial reports indicate a woman put a toddler in the trunk of a car and drove off. OPP attended but the woman and vehicle were gone. Later that day OPP received a tip from the public that helped identify the grandmother and granddaughter.

A 74-year-old woman from Erin has been charged with Failing to Ensure a Toddler is Properly Secured contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Family and Children's Services where notified and are investigating. The child was returned to her parents without injuries. To protect the victim, the name of the charged individual will not be released.

The OPP would like to thank those who continue to ensure that Wellington County remains one of the safest communities in Canada.
