Traffic stop in Puslinch results in weapons, drug trafficking charges for driver

Police say they uncovered a loaded handgun in the vehicle

TOWNSHIP OF PUSLINCH - On Jan. 28, 2020, at approximately 12:45 a.m. a Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer stopped a vehicle on Wellington Road 34 near Brock Road in Puslinch Township. The driver was stopped for a provincial offences violation. Investigation revealed that the driver was wanted by another Ontario police service.

Police arrested the driver and discovered he was in possession of a quantity of drugs including cannabis, methamphetamine, prescription drugs, drug paraphernalia, and Canadian currency. The driver was also in unlawful possession of photo identification. Further to the arrest, officers uncovered a loaded hand gun in the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, Richard Brian Wismer, 37-years-old of Georgian Bluffs Township has been charged with:

  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Knowledge of an unauthorized weapon
  • Occupant of a motor vehicle having knowledge of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
  • Two counts of possession of an identity document unauthorized
  • Trafficking methamphetamines
  • Trafficking clonazepam
  • Drive with cannabis readily available
  • Four counts of suspended driving.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario court of Justice - Guelph on March 6, 2020.
